A First Travelogue
The 10th Year Wedding Anniversary
Little Rock, Arkansas

August 3rd, 4th, and 5th of 2007

The Clinton Library
Okay, so we finally go to the library. The 'modern trailer' overlooking the Arkansas River. Really, it's very beautiful in person, and I can see why the design has been recognized, for its good points and bad.

I've been on tours before with an audio self-tour, but was too cheap to get the big deal tour, but since this was a weekend of no cheap thrills, we spent the money and did the audio tour. Well, it wasn't all that and a bag of chips. Unless you like hearing Bill Clinton talk,
or if you can't read, then don't worry about the audio tour. It consists
of 32 stations where you enter a number on the device and listen for 3-10 minutes about the exhibit in front of you.
To the right is a sample of an exhibit.
Below is a picture of what everyone looks like going to the exhibits.

And that is what the entire first floor is about.
After about 7 or 8 of these,
listening to BC talk about the economy, world peace,
the Vice President,
we were ready for the second floor.

library
On the second floor, it's all about the gifts the President was given,
about life in the White House, and a gallery with local artist. The gallery rotates, so I'm not sure what will be there if you ever chose to visit.

To find out more about the library,
visit:
Clinton Presidential Library

The library offers an orientation video, which we skipped, and
it has a restaurant, which is only open for lunch,
and a Starbucks, that we had coffee at.
The most upper floor is a private residential
apartment for the Clintons to use when in Arkansas.

Close to the library is the Clinton School of Public Service
 and the
headquarters for Heifer International.

Oval Office

Of course, there is a representation of the
Oval Office, which naturally, we aren't allowed to walk in. The closest you
can get is to take pictures from about four doorways.

And what happens when you look up?
You see this!

Life at the White House
I don't know why, maybe for brownie points,
but people like to give the President gifts.

bluegift

One guess as to why this one was my favorite!

chihuly

This is 'part' of a Christmas Tree designed by Dale Chihuly whose exhibit I  saw in Little Rock in 2001. I really love his ceilings!
dining

Fine Dining at the White House (along with a dress worn by Hilary but on a much smaller model)
Can you imagine going to a dinner with your name card no where near your spouses? And you are seated
next to people based on who a professional seater thinks you should sit by??
Wonder where most housewives get seated? Hmmmm.....

buddy

I had actually forgotten all about the White House pets until we went by the
gift shop. There you can buy stuffed pets, Pet Books, School Supplies with Pets,
I miss Buddy bumper stickers....a whole slew of things!
I know someone really smart during the Bush Administration started something new...
The Pet WebCam! Where the White House pet 'stars' in it.
That will probably be the one highlight of the Bush years that will never tarnish.
visitors

No matter what your political affiliation, just visit any Presidential Library just once.
This map of visitors is very crowded, and this was one of four maps!
The library opened in 2004, and has attracted tourists from around the world!
Although this maybe the main star for your visit to Little Rock, you could always hope to
meet your idol, Ginafish, but you'll have to let me know when you are in town. :)
