Sad to say...I have a hard time buying for everyone! I am an odd present buyer. I want to find the perfect gift that represents that person and me all at once. I want each gift to be personal and meaningful. It bugs me A LOT when gifts are all about how much they cost verses if that person even wants it.

My kids are at odd ages right now. Kylie is not quite a teen but not at all a child and they boys are right between preschool and big kid things.

Gift cards are a double edged sword for me! I'm not a fan of giving a gift to someone just to give one and have it sit in a cabinet collecting dust so a gift card is appealing in that they can get something they really want and will use. But, the downside is that gift cards are not personal or meaningful. Ugh!

By the way...you remember me all too well--good call on the Teacher's Pet :)

I have always been for year round school because there was only ever a summer break to work on farms and who is doing that now?

the car thing I don't think will work. People are allowed to go 5 miles below or 5 miles ahead of the speed limit. Some people don't see as well or have as good of reaction time as others and you want them to go 5 or 10 miles below the speed limit if that's what they need to do. If they weren't controling their own cars, accidents will happen. Plus, what about when the rain is coming down in sheets or the road is iced over? There are just too many variables for a system like this. i think instead the interstates should have built in subway systems so groups of people can commute back and forth between large towns. Public travel is the wave of the future. It provides jobs for people and the rest of us save money on cars, insurance, car maintenance, etc. Get on that.

You are on to something with the year round school. It doesn't sound appealing to say it...but I think it would work better. And there would be a lot less regression in aquired skills from the previous grade level...I get burnt out waiting for Christmas break so I'm sure the kiddos do to!

TV is so good. Lots of shows are informative. You can restrict junk television. Yes, people watch too much tv, but as long as everything else that needs to be done is getting done first, then why not TV?People used to limit TV watching to like 2 hours a day. They say don't watch it before bed so you can sleep better, but that goes for any light. If it's the technology he's trying to get a way from, he would need to give up computers, cell phones, nintendo DS and all the like for a month. I don't see what just no TV for a month is supposed to do. You went to watch a movie, so what's the difference?

I, too, have passed the panic weather gene on to my children. The boys hate storms of any kind and Kylie nervously asks if there is going to be a tornado.

I didn't have a steady boyfriend at 13. I just had my first date. I went to a school dance with Josh Johnson. we barely spoke and dad asked if we wanted to stop and get ice cream on the way home and I said no. That was it. Just a date. I was 15 when I had my first steady boyfriend.
