Evacuate

I’ve got of evacuating to do.

To Evacuate: Synonyms: pour out, drain, discharge, clear out, evacuate, exhaust, void, clear

Job hunting:

Let’s put it this way. I haven’t found anything permanent, and I haven’t found anything temporary to last until school starts and I can substitute again. It’s like I’m a pair of penny loafers. Penny loafers are practical shoes, classic, and mean business. Penny loafers aren’t cheap nor are they ultra expensive. They always look like penny loafers though. If you take a pair of penny loafers to an employer searching for flip flops, he thinks “hmmm… these penny loafers are going to want a lot of money, I can get flip flops for cheaper”. If the penny loafers go on to an employer who wants black stiletto heels, the employer thinks “hmm…penny loafers could get the job done, but they are too comfortable in their current life, they don’t really want to upgrade to stilettos that pinch”.

*sigh* Flip flop jobs are the ones that kids in high school easily get, with no experience and no paycheck. Stiletto’s are the jobs with the 50 hour work week and a blackberry. Married to the job shoes. I just wanna wear my penny loafers people!

Experiment:

In January, when pondering those pesky things called ‘resolutions’, my husband thought it’d be great if we would try to go without T.V. for a month. Over my dead body would that happen in the winter months I cried! So we settled on June. All the t.v. shows have had their finales so how hard could it be? Well…I miss the morning news. A lot. I miss plopping the kids in front of a video if I need a break, need to shower, or need them to stop killing each other. Meanwhile, we are into week three and hubby is still in love with the no t.v. rule. He began to stew that maybe we should just chunk out the televisions altogether. He’s crazy. Did I tell you that? ;-) Okay, maybe not crazy, but I’m not that simpliefied yet. I told him we could just NOT turn it on when he is at home. From about 4 p.m. until bedtime, that couldn’t be too hard, could it? Oh yeah… what about the weekends? Screw that! I want my two t.v.’s back! :D

Weather:

One reason I like t.v. is easy access to weather forecasts. I’m always telling the kids to pick clothes out that are “weather appropriate”. Yes, my 6 year old knows what that means. It means no long sleeves in the summer and no swimsuits during November. Weather online and by calling a local bank isn’t the same as the seven minute weather segment on the local television station. It just isn’t.

Last Friday, my mother called me early in the morning to ask about what sort of laptop to purchase. I called her later that afternoon to find out if her shopping spree had been successful. First thing out of her mouth is maniac babbling about tornadoes instead of excitement over her new laptop. So I break the no t.v. rule and turn on the local channels. 20 seconds later, I’m waking my daughter up from a nap, grabbing my son who is still in his pajamas at 3:30 and racing to my in-laws house. Severe weather makes me panic. I can’t help it. Usually my hubby is home to help calm me down and keep the peace, but he was gone this afternoon. :( So my kids got the full brunt of my panic mode which scared them and scarred my daughter. I only panicked for about 30 minutes but it was enough to make her clingy for the rest of the weekend so that I didn’t leave her sight except for sleep. *sigh*

To help compensate for being displaced at my parents because our electricity went out, hubby and I went to the movies and saw “Angels and Demons” and then picked up the kids for “Up”. The only reason we were able to leave our daughter’s sight for one movie was b/c it was nap time and she was out cold.

Friends Gathering

Hubby and I were suppose to attend a gathering of his high school chums for a bbq and games. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to go b/c our daughter begged and cried. One of our friends was still able to fill us in on the gathering and attended church with us Sunday. :D

Sunday at church

Her clinginess continued on through to Sunday. In the entire two and half years we have attended the church where hubby pastors/preaches at, I have never had to step out and sit in the quiet room with either of my kids. They have always sat on the pew beside me drawing pictures or just snuggled up beside me waiting for service to be over. This Sunday, Suzanne wouldn’t even go in the sanctuary. Ay yi yi! She was crying because she didn’t want to go to first grade, then she didn’t feel good, etc…

So the weekend was a wash, the job hunting is a wash, but I really enjoyed both of the movies we saw. We’ve also borrowed my mother’s Wii and the sore muscles speak of enjoying it alot.

And the RAffle! Isara.org had a raffle to raise money for the charity. The live ustream drawing was a lot of fun too! Check out the video! Isara Charity Raffle

I think I’m done. Fully evacuated. :)

  1. I, too, have passed the panic weather gene on to my children. The boys hate storms of any kind and Kylie nervously asks if there is going to be a tornado.

  2. TV is so good. Lots of shows are informative. You can restrict junk television. Yes, people watch too much tv, but as long as everything else that needs to be done is getting done first, then why not TV?People used to limit TV watching to like 2 hours a day. They say don’t watch it before bed so you can sleep better, but that goes for any light. If it’s the technology he’s trying to get a way from, he would need to give up computers, cell phones, nintendo DS and all the like for a month. I don’t see what just no TV for a month is supposed to do. You went to watch a movie, so what’s the difference?
