Work
by GinafishSo I’m pretty sure I blogged about SubTeach. The agency that supplies substitutes for the local school district that my kids attend. I’m also pretty sure I blogged about how frustrating it has been to not know when they would call with a substituting opportunity. While waiting on the SubTeach to call, I have still been looking for a job.
Last week, at the best time ever, I got a call on Monday to go the high school’s 9-10 building and was asked to substitute for a secretary. That Monday was pretty hectic, but it was also energetic. I enjoyed the office very much more than the class room.
So the office has two secretaries. The one I was filling in for had two kids, age 5 and 2. They were both sick, so I got called again Tuesday. And Wednesday. And on Wednesday, I was asked to fill in the rest of the week! Which I was more than happy to do for several reasons.
I was enjoying the work, enjoying getting to know the staff, and learning more of the behind the scenes ropes about the school which might come in very handy if (when) I substitute there again.
At the end of the week, the other secretary said she enjoyed working with me and would pass my name on to other buildings, and the principal said I did an outstanding job.
By Friday, I was ready for a break though. After all, I haven’t worked a full time job in 8 years! Even when I schedule Vacation Bible School, I purposely schedule it for 3 days that are only 4 hours long with prep and kids! I know my limits and 40 hours of work is hard! LOL!
I am very grateful for last week’s full schedule for lots of reasons though. Getting to know the staff, I found out that they can request specific substitutes so I hope my name is on the tip of their tongues. Another reason is that my family needs the financial assistance for now.
And all that will lead to my next post. A new job. ![]()
