The afterpause
by GinafishAfterpause? Ginafish? Are you making up words?
Yep, sure am!
The afterpause is the deep breath and relaxing break you take before you know the mad rush is all going to start again. Christmas day is very hectic around here, starting early and not ending until hours later. Then in three days is Suzanne’s birthday, and then three days later again is New Years Eve. New Years Day isn’t nearly as crazy as Christmas, but there still is the feeling that ’something has to be done’ that day.
So for the afterpause? We watched two Indiana Jones movies and sent the kids over to Nana’s. We cleaned up some of the toy trash aftermath (real word there!) and Josh did a slow cook french onion soup. The house smelled wonderful for hours as onions simmered in the oven, and then on the stove top for a while. With some toasted french bread, the kids ate it up. And for dinner, I’m going to pick up some greasy hamburgers.
I like occassional lazy days. The kind where you might or might not shower at 2 in the afternoon. (I did, Josh did not) and you might or might not remind your kids to brush their teeth. (who am I kidding? they didn’t even get dressed until it was 4 and time to drive over to Nana’s).
When I went into Nana’s house, she had spent the day taking down Christmas decorations and rearranged the living room. I told her she made me feel like maybe I should have done something today. But then I got home, sat down, and then *sigh* decided that today was just an afterpause day.
Try it, accidentally, or planned on purpose, give yourself an afterpause day during the hectic holiday season. Your cortisone levels will thank you. At least, that’s my excuse for doing it. Wanna keep the family healthy. ![]()
