Not much blogging going on
by GinafishYep, I admit it. I’ve been sucking a big doobie in the blogging world lately. Just haven’t felt like writing I suppose. First off, I miss my old blogging software. I think. I can’t really remember it, I just know that there are some things about wordpress that don’t work as smoothly as I’d hope they would.
Sooo….blogging for today. Well… I just want to say, I’m so disappointed in the world condition. HA!! That’s a real moral booster, isn’t it? However, it’s true enough for the moment. All of Mother Earth’s wrath has been wrecking havoc here and there and the teaser for last nights news cast? Where to take your kids to eat free.
Where do I begin? I have been reading about Myanmar (a.k.a. Burma) and have been so sad, angry, disgusted, and perturbed. A cyclone that make Katrina look like a rain puddle has washed a shore and there isn’t a damn thing we can do to help. Not really anyway. The government of Myanmar isn’t really all geared up for letting foreigners in. They’ll take the aid if you want to drop it off at the airport, but then the either give it to the officials, or store it. The map of the region affected by the cyclone shows a population affected of 1.7 million people. Over 30,000 are acknowledged dead but there is no way to count a place that hasn’t had a census. Now 12 days later, starvation, disease, another tragedy is getting started. Remember when Thailand was hit and there was lots of tourists there with video recorders, so we saw footage of waves coming, lumber floating in the water, stories of people clinging to trees? The hardest hit area of Myanmar was a rural simple people with no tourist industry to speak of. And even now, they aren’t letting foreigners come in to help. It’s beyond my comprehension how they permit this suffering, and how all the other countries don’t scream and fight tooth and nail to get in with aid.
And at the same time, China with an earthquake. 15,000 dead and 25,000 trapped alive for two days. I’m sitting in my kitchen with food in the pantry, electricity and water. I know where my family is and that they are safe. I just don’t know what to do with that. Yes, feel blessed is one response. Guilt is another.
Meanwhile, in my own backyard, so to speak, there have been twice as many tornadoes this year as usual. And somehow, I live in a pocket where there hasn’t been any damage. It’s easy enough to find storm chasers videos of all the Arkansas tornadoes. May 2, and May 10th are the most current ones. I’m glad the death rates haven’t been in the tens of thousands like the Asian disasters. And I just hope that the next major natural disaster in America has a more immediate response than Katrina. I hope we learned lessons and can use what we’ve learned. I just wish we could apply it to Myanmar. It’s good to know China is dealing with the tragedy they’ve been dealt and are willing to get help.
So my blogging is not real cheerful this morning. Just gotta be me though ![]()
