Lots of little things

by Ginafish

Suz has a cold. She is absolutely petrified to take any medicine. She cried for an hour this morning, till I finally calmed her down. She’s now relaxing in the tub. I tried to get her to tell me what was so scary about medicine, but she doesn’t really know, and can’t tell me why. When she was really little, like two, we’d hold her down and do the squirt in the cheek method, quickly blow in her face. We’d be lucky to get half a dose in her since she’d thrust as much out with her tongue as she could. Now that she’s old enough to half way reason with, I explain that the medicine is to make her feel better. If she refuses to take it, then she won’t feel better. I tried bribing her with chocolate cake for breakfast. No, thank you. If you have hints, let me know. Ugh.

We had a great Christmas. Lots of family, food and gifts. Okay, maybe we od’d on the gifts a bit this year. Our house is still a disaster! New toys every where! I really need to be off the computer and putting them away.

For part of E’s Christmas vacation, he asked if he could spend three days and two nights at Nana’s house. We worked out the dates so that he was there last night, and will be there tonight for New Year’s Eve. Suz is spending tonight at Grandma B’s for New Years Eve. So Mommy and Daddy have New Year’s Eve with no kids! WoOHoO!

Guess what we are doing?!? Going to an AA potluck. With guest speaker. :( I know I should be happy to go, but really. I like to drink. I like to be with people I know, not total strangers. To be blunt, it sucks. I’m going, but I fully expect to be home by 10:30. I know that there is a chance I will have a good time and meet nice people. But. We don’t often have nights that are kid free. I’d rather spend it at home with a good action movie and a six pack of alcoholic beverages. :/ (I probably should explain this: Hubby is a pastor, at the church an AA group has been meeting there for over 40 years, every New Year’s Eve they do a potluck, and naturally, invite the pastor and spouse to ‘give thanks’ for letting them use the church for their meetings. Neither one of us is an alcoholic, and while I’m sympathetic to their disease, it’s really more of a not wanting to be with strangers kind of thing).

What’s your big plans?

And yes, our little girl turned 5 on Friday. We had a party on Friday night with hubby’s family, and then mine on Saturday. She has enough Barbie’s and Barbie movies to choke a couple of horses now, a new batch of playdoh, and a lot of “Hello Kitty” things. She gets so inundated with new things during the week of Christmas, it’ll take a while for the dust to settle and for her to really decide what new things she enjoys playing with.

Ethan, on the other hand, has clear ideas about which gifts he is going to enjoy. He almost wouldn’t leave the house Christmas morning because of his new magician’s set from Uncle John. And then again, when he left to spend the night at Nana’s, he wanted to take it with him. I left it behind though, b/c we haven’t set down to learn all the tricks yet. National Geographic has a line of scientific based toys at Target, and I got Ethan a metal detector that I think will get a lot of use as the year goes on. Just wish I had thought to buy him a shovel to go with it. :D

And now, since it is New Year’s Eve after all, I guess I should post a couple of things regarding that. Thank you for reading the blog during 2007. This is my second anniversary of posting this month, and while it has slowed down, I still look forward to posting and most of all, to your comments. I hope for my third year to maybe develop themes to post about.

I’m still mulling over how to do this so bear with me. For Instance, I think February would be a great month to review candy and chocolate. :D

Maybe one month could be aimed at ‘Movie Reviews’. And I could try really hard to make one month “Poetry Month” and write at least twice a week a new poem or share some dirty limericks from across the web. That would lead to a natural “YouTube” video month, where I post nothing but videos. Hmm… I think on this idea. What do you think? Want to see themes?? Let me know! The New Year starts tomorrow!
