Epiphany

Yes, this is the same post from my isarablog, but I wanted to see if anyone here would comment on it.

What a great finale is was on Dancing with the Stars last night! The entire season replayed! It makes the season feel like it lasted forever and yet, went so quickly.

When the end of the night came, Helio was announced as this season’s winner. This would have surprised me three weeks ago, but by last night, it seemed appropriate. If you based the winner on Monday nights performance. But at the same time, Mel B had the most consistent high scores of the season. Hmmm…

You know what all this makes me think about?

Politics.

During the campaign or dance season, everyone is on equal ground. Some dances or campaign speeches are winners, some are losers. Popularity rises and falls.

In the finale, with campaigns you have two main candidates, with DwtS, you have two equal talents.

And then you have the votes.

On DwtS, the judges vote and the people vote, these scores are combined and then the winner is announced. This season it came down to a man and a woman.  The man, a little foreign, not familiar to the audience, we like his charisma, but don’t really know much about him. The woman? Her life has been in tabloids, we know if we ‘like her or not’ and yet we feel drawn to her dancing as something unique and unrelated to the tabloid persona.

Here’s what I’m seeing: the primaries are coming up for President. Up until now, all the contestants have been dancing, but the finalist will be dancing for us soon. Most likely a man and a woman. The woman? “Her life has been in the tabloids…” seem familiar? The man? Well, I’m really unsure who will get the nomination,  but what if it was Guliani? A little man? Hmm… but typically short men don’t get the nominations but don’t all the Republican candidates seem a bit ‘foreign’? Just not plugged into the mainstream consensus? I think this might be true because there isn’t any forefront Republican yet.

Either way,  let’s take a look at the voting now…The people go to the booth and vote. The electoral college goes and votes. On DwtS, the people call in and the judges give scores.

I’m thinking that the voting for Presidency needs to go one step more and COMBINE the electoral college with the people’s votes JUST LIKE Dancing with The Stars!

There’s just too many similarities for this too be ignored! There’s my big epiphany for this season of DwtS. That the elections for President should be exactly the same. Now if only we could encourage people to vote.

Is it just me? Anyone else see the similarities?
