A day off…
by GinafishI had heard of it happening before, but didn’t really think it could happen, till it happened to me.
Yes, on Tuesday, I woke up to find all of my family sick except myself. Fevers all around! Yippee!! Husband home from work, son staying home from school. Weird thing was, they each had their own unique symptom list, and I ran around feeling like a nurse, dispensing meds and counting the hours till the next meds, warming up soup, bringing out popsicles.
I didn’t mind. They weren’t so horribly sick that I had to cart them all off to the doctors. And yes, they are all home again today. The fevers have gone, temporarily, but the sore throat from one, and the congested coughing from another, is still obvious.
In the 6 years I have been a stay at home mom, I haven’t called in sick once. I need an award. The Martyr Award. (hint, hint) I know that if I ever really got sick, I could ask my hubby to stay home, or ask my mother in law to watch my daughter during the day till he got home.
I think one reason I don’t get sick is because I live in the Nile. Opps…I mean denile… wrong spelling…denial. There ya go. 
I deny that my family is really sick. E? That cough? That’s not a cold, it’s just his allergies. I can’t catch allergies so I’m not worried about it. Her fever? Oh, maybe she’s got a slight UTI?…I can’t catch that either! HA! And as for my hubby? His sore throat and body aches, and fever with chills? Well…he’s just melodramatic everytime he stubs his toe, he’s not really sick, he’s just sleeping all day catching up on his beauty rest because he’s stressed. I can’t catch stress.
See what I mean? Denial! Mind over body! I can’t possibly get sick, because my family never gets anything that’s viral! That spreads! I mean, come on, so they are all sick at the same time…it’s just coincidence, right? Is that my throat ticking? Ha! Nope, just needed a swig of coffee. *ahh* That’s better. Nope, not going to catch their imaginary illnesses. Not me. Mind over matter, buddy, mind over matter…
Do you catch everything or rarely get sick? Do you believe in mind over matter for some things?
