Chore of chores

by Ginafish

You know how when you are a little kid, you just hate cleaning your room? Unless you are a Type A neat freak of course, and then you’re just weird. Most kids don’t like to clean their rooms. They’d rather play. Big shock!

As an adult, sometimes, it’s not any easier. To clean the big messes. You’d rather just play. Watch Tv, read a book, leave the house. Hire someone. HA! Well, I’ve got a big mess waiting on me, and it’s been waiting awhile now. I told my husband on Sunday that I’d take care of it today so I guess I’ll do it. I just hope I don’t get side tracked and start playing.

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Going through all the toys. And I do mean all. I get laundry baskets and put them in the living rooms, then all of the toys come out of the bedrooms into an appropriate basket/pile.

I start with Ethan’s room first. His toys get put into various piles. One that gets to go back in his room, one that gets passed on to Suzanne, one that gets put into a trash bag to save for a yard sale, another that goes into a trash bag because it’s broken or has missing parts. Then the smallest stack of all, the sentimental, “mommy can’t bear to part with it” toy pile. The ones I will save in the garage till they have kids.

In the garage right now, I have a Jack-in-the-box (classic, all babies love them), a little dog you pull with a string that ‘yelps’ (the first and only toy I ever bought at ToysRus), all four of the Teletubbies that talk when you push their belly (yes, the red one sounds like he is saying “f@ggot”, but if you watch the show, he’s saying ‘ride it, ride it’).

Suzanne’s toys will get sorted next, with her piles being pretty much the same, only she doesn’t pass anything on to Ethan, but maybe her little baby cousin EllaRose might get a few girly toys out of the deal.

I usually try to do this chore before E’s birthday mid-September so he has a place to put the new toys, but this year, I didn’t do it. Ya know why? It’s just hard to go into his bedroom when he’s at school. It makes me miss him during the day. After he leaves, Suzanne and I ignore his room and toys so that she doesn’t get in trouble for playing with them while he’s not here. I don’t think she has gone into his room once since he started school without him being home. I only go in to hunt for dirty clothes once a week.

But alas, the house is a mess and the toys have to be taken care of. Remember the 3 bags of toys that I had to put in the garage because Suzanne didn’t want to clean her room? 3 weeks before school started? They are still there. Only once has she asked for her Barbies. I could probably give them all away and she wouldn’t care. I’m thinking of sending her to her grandma’s house while I go through her toys so she won’t see what she hasn’t missed.

Time to get off and give Nana a call. A couple of hours ought to be long enough.

This is my version of spring cleaning, what’s yours?
