Sounds in my ears

by Ginafish

I have had tinnitus (ringing in my ears) as long as I can remember. Might have started as sinus problems or from cranking up the music too much as a teenager. Now I’m mostly use to it, and have learned to live with it.

Right now, it’s pouring rain outside. Without the lightening and thunder factor. That sound is so relaxing.

I also enjoy the hum of fans. I had a fan when I was young that was a green metal oscillating fan. I couldn’t wait for summer when my dad would get the fan out of storage for my bedroom. Brrrrrrrpppp…ssss…eck..Brrrrrrrpppp….sssss….eck… It had it’s own unique rhythmic sound that was very comforting.

I’ve grown accustom to my yards sounds of quiet crickets, loud frogs, woodpeckers, the occasional geese, and the C-130s flying over head.

Yet, if I think about “What can I hear” at any given moment - there’s always a high pitched squeal ring tone. It’s most annoying when there are no background noises. A quiet room makes it the loudest.

It reminds me that when I’m older, I’ll probably need a hearing aid of some sort to help hear ‘outside’ noises. And that gets me wondering…how many hearing aids will the generation behind me need? I read an article the other day about how if they make hearing aids ’stylish’ like flowers or gems or something kitschy that maybe the public wouldn’t mind wearing them. They might even become cool. Like the contacts that weren’t prescription that changed eyes to tiger eyes or purple.

If they can come up with a hearing aid that looks really cool, I’ll wear one before I’m 60. Maybe. Would you?
