A lot of jobs
by GinafishMy current profession is Mother. I am a stay at home mom. It will be a few years before I have to brush up on my resume, and to be honest, there are some jobs that will never show up on it.
I entered the workforce in 1988. The first time I got a job, the owner called on April 1st. April Fools Day. I asked her at least twice if she was joking me or did I really have a job. I’m not sure if she was annoyed or tickled.
Anyway, in no particular order, this is the list of jobs I have had.
Shipley Donuts, counter help, and donut maker. (1 year)
Shoney’s Restaurant, waitress (3 years)
Subway Sandwiches, counter help, part-time-day manager. (3 years)
KUCA morning dj, children’s programming. (1 year)
Acxiom Corporation, tape librarian (1 year)
Nanny (9 months)
Stripper, no pasties (3 days)
George’s Restaurant, waitress, barmaid (3 months)
Baptist Church childcare worker (6 months)
College Bookstore, book finder, cashier (1 month)
American Management Corp (Insurance), (1 month)
Conway Regional Health Systems, marketing coordinator (3 years)
In college, one year I also did work study in the cafeteria doing everything from running the register, cleaning dishes, hostessing for big shin digs. Another year in college, I also was the copy editor for the year book while also holding two jobs. (morning dj and evening and weekend Subway sandwich artist).
This summer my dad was recognized for working for the same company for 35 years. My mother has taught at the same school for 25 years. My sister has worked for the same place for 10 years this summer. Guess I’ll never live up to that standard. But I don’t have too.
What job did I aspire to have when I was growing up? I wanted to have Oprah’s job of course! Talk to new people every day, learn something new on occassion, and get to know people from all walks of life. Still seems like a dream job to me.
What job did you want to do when you grew up? And what’s the oddest/hardest/easiest job you ever had?
